Renewing Your Mind

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” — Romans 12:2, New Living Translation

Have you ever found yourself stuck in an unhealthy pattern of thinking? Maybe you have spent too much time comparing yourself to others. You feel like you are in a rut and can’t move forward with life.

Maybe you feel as if you have not lived up to your potential. Your house is not as nice as your friend’s house. You would like to have a new car, but you just can’t afford it. You have enough trouble paying for all the basic necessities of life, and you just can’t seem to make ends meet.

Perhaps you are stuck in an addictive cycle. You’d like to lose weight, but you just can’t seem to shed the first 10 pounds. You’ve been hiding an addiction to drugs or alcohol. You want to be free from sexual addiction, but you are too ashamed to ask for help and don’t know where to turn.

Or do you have difficulty with your relationships? You can’t get along with your spouse. You feel you are losing touch with your kids. No matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to please anyone.

The Bible says that we can change. We can be transformed–inside and out–by changing the way that we think. It isn’t easy, and the change doesn’t come overnight, but you can change.

Change comes when we learn to replace negative thinking with positive thinking. We can learn to stop thinking about the problems of life, like unpaid bills, addictive behaviors, and damaged relationships. We should not ignore these problems or pretend that they are not real, but the obstacles we face in life do not define us. Character is not defined by the problems you face, but by how you face your problems.

You can face any challenge with a victorious mindset. Today, you can choose to renew your mind to think about God’s will for you, His good and pleasing and perfect will.

God does not want you to lose your battles. He wants you to succeed! God does not want you to live in isolation and depression. He wants you to live in community and joy! God does not want you to think negative thoughts about yourself. He wants you to know that you are a victorious conqueror who can face any problem in life. After all, you are his child!

Take a step of faith today. Choose to believe what God has said about you. Today is your day to begin living a victorious life in Jesus Christ. You were made for good things, and today is the day to begin your life of renewal as you choose to fill your mind with good thoughts about the victory that God has set before you.

Accept God’s free gift today, and be transformed by the renewing of your mind!
